Seminary Choir visits London, Ontario for Holy Myrrhbearers Sunday
From April 17-18th, the five member Holy Trinity Seminary choir traveled across the border to Canada to sing Divine Services at the Church of the Christ the Savior in London, Ontario. Being the third Sunday of Pascha, the services were dedicated to the Holy Myrrhbearing Women, Joseph of Arimathea, and Nicodemos. The choir prepared special arrangements of the Paschal canon and stichira. After Saturday’s vigil , four families in the parish were gracious enough to host the seminarians for the night.
The next morning, the Divine Liturgy also included pieces from the Paschal season. The choir sang an arrangement of the Valaam chant of “The Angel Cried” and several compositions of Christ is Risen, including Kastalsky. In honor of the feast, the Cherubic hymn was set to the melody of “Noble Joseph” as sung on Holy Friday.
As it happened, Sunday was the parish sisterhood’s feast day. At brunch following Liturgy, the seminarians sang the Paschal stichira and “Many Years” in their honor. The parish also held a collection for the needs of the seminary, which resulted in substantial support of the Seminary. We would like to thank Fr. Vladimir Morin and the entire parish for inviting the choir to celebrate the Paschal season with them, and especially those families who housed the students Saturday night.
