Seminar on iconography took place at Holy Trinity Seminary
On Feburary 25-27, a seminar dedicated to Church art took place at Holy Trinity Seminary, led by St. Petersburg iconographer Phillip Andreevich Davydov. The seminar covered various forms of Church art, such as church architecture and iconography. Throughout the course, seminarians had a chance to acquaint themselves with how our pious ancestors expressed their spiritual experiences, how varying traditions developed over many centuries into today’s Church identity, and how different historic periods and geographic placement of the Church affected its creative expression. Together with Phillip Andreevich, participants in the seminar surveyed and discussed many monuments of history, even including the most ancient examples which have surveyed to our time of early Christianity. The seminarians thanked Phillip Andreevich for the substantive lectures and expressed a hope for future meetings within our holy monastery.
