The Celebration of the Patronal Feasts of Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary
On June 14 - 17, Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary observed the solemn celebration of their most honored Holy Days, beginning with the Sunday of Holy Pentecost and continuing through the morning of the Day of the Holy Trinity. Divine Services for the first two days of the Feast were officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion. His Eminence arrived on Saturday afternoon, bringing with him the miraculous Kursk-root Icon of the Theotokos.
Having been greeted by the monastic brotherhood and the seminarians, Metropolitan Hilarion served the Vigil for Holy Pentecost, for which a multitude of pilgrims had gathered. A great number of the laity made their confessions during the course of the vigil, while antiphonal chanting was performed by two choirs.
Two Divine Liturgies were served on the following morning: the early Liturgy in the lower church, and the main Liturgy in the upper church of Holy Trinity Cathedral. During both Liturgies many of the faithful partook of the Sacred Mysteries of Christ. At the completion of the later Liturgy, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, presented Archimandrite Luke with an abbatial staff, signifying Fr. Luke's authority as the newly elected superior of Holy Trinity Monastery. His Eminence wished all success to Fr. Luke in his new obedience as superior. Following the dismissal of the Liturgy, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, gave a sermon, first in Russian and then also in English, on the descent of the Holy Spirit. The Metropolitan exhorted the faithful to make use of the Grace of the Holy Spirit, given in the Mysteries of the Church, in order to struggle worthily as Orthodox Christians. The clergy and brotherhood proceeded solemnly to the refectory, for a common meal, after which Metropolitan Hilarion invited the brethren, seminarians and pilgrims to a reception at the former skete of Metropolitan Laurus of blessed memory.
On Monday, the Day of the Holy Spirit, an even greater number of clergy from the surrounding states assembled at Holy Trinity Cathedral to concelebrate the Divine Liturgy. The service was marked by an ordination to the priesthood, and by several clerical awards. Fr. Alexei Diuka was ordained to the priesthood, with the assignment to serve in Russian Orthodox missions in China. Archpriest Michael Boikov was awarded the right to wear a jeweled cross, and Deacon Nikolai Olhovsky was awarded the right to wear a double horarion. After the dismissal of the Liturgy, Protodeacon Victor Lochmatow was honored with a synodal gramota, recognizing his years of faithful devotion to Metropolitan Laurus.
Following the common meal, the Abbot of Holy Trinity Monastery, Archimandrite Luke, invited the Metropolitan, visiting clergy and monastics for a reception in his office. Having received the warmest wishes of his own monastic brethren, the new Metropolitan departed as the bells announced his farewell.
