Youth Conference Visits Jordanville
Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary welcomed the participants of the St. Herman's Youth Conference to a day-trip to Jordanville on December 25, 2006. The Russian Orthodox Church Abroad's largest annual gathering of young people, the St. Herman's Youth Conference met this year at the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Albany, NY, from December 21 to 26. On December 25, the feast-day of St. Herman of Alaska, the conference participants, led by His Grace, Bishop Gabriel of Manhattan, traveled to Jordanville, where they attended the Divine Liturgy, had lunch in the monastery refectory, toured the grounds, and were treated to two brief lectures in the Seminary graduation hall. Archimandrite Luke, Dean of Seminary, spoke about Scientology, while Fr. Samuel (Nedelsky) delivered a brief talk entitled "The Gospel and Media Culture" (which may be read here), which focused on media reaction to The Da Vinci Code and The Passion of the Christ . Both talks were followed by lively and engaging question and answer sessions.
