Concert by the Holy Trinity Seminary Choir
The Holy Trinity Seminary choir recently performed a concert at the Synodal Cathedral in New York City. This was the fourth time the choir, under the direction of Hieromonk Roman (Krassovsky), has performed at the Synod in the past two years, the first being at the enthronement of His Eminence, Metropolitan Laurus. The concert took place on the Second Sunday of Great Lent after the Divine Liturgy. The choir, consisting of nineteen seminarians and members of the monastic brotherhood, sang from the steps of the ambo inside the cathedral. Approximately 175 people were in attendance. The choir's repertoire consisted primarily of a selection of lenten hymns of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The choir was introduced to the audience by Mrs. Volkonskaia, who graciously thanked the singers, on behalf of everyone present, for bringing the lenten monastic spirit of Jordanville. After the concert Mrs. Volkonskaia presented the choir with a generous gift of $1,000 for Holy Trinity Seminary. Following the concert the choir was invited to a cordial reception by His Grace, Bishop Gabriel of Manhattan, in his own quarters. Many clergy and laity expressed praise for the choir's singing technique and overall performance and expressed hopes to hear the choir again.
We wish to extend special thanks to Mr. Anatoly Panchoshny, the seminary choir's vocal trainer, who also participates in the Synod choir, and, of course, to our monastery's choir director, Hieromonk Roman, for his patient and continuous work with the seminary choir.
